Jon Klassen introduces little ones to nature in new board book series

    0
By Jessica on February 8, 2025 ages 2 & up, picture books

The latest offering from Caldecott Medal author Jon Klassen is a trio of board books that take readers outdoors — a forest, a farm, an island. In true Klassen form, the text is simple and perfectly paired with his signature illustrative style. Each book follows the same pattern, working through day and into night. Any or all of these three would make a fun new baby or birthday gift. Learn more about each book below.

YOUR FOREST (YOUR PLACES), by Jon Klassen, Candlewick, Feb. 4, 2025, Board Book, $8.99 (ages 2-5)

    This is your sun.
It is coming up for you.

    These are your trees.
They can go over by the sun.

With a minimal tableau of familiar objects and a gentle rhythm suited for reading aloud, a forest and all its items—a cabin, some rocks, a (nice) forest ghost, a stream, a bridge—are assembled, ending with bedtime as the sun goes down. This is a forest for a young child to have whenever they want to go there. —Synopsis provided by Candlewick

YOUR FARM (YOUR PLACES), by Jon Klassen, Candlewick, Feb. 4, 2025, Board Book, $8.99 (ages 2-5)

    This is your sun.
It is coming up for you.

    This is your tree.
It can go under the sun.

With a minimal tableau of familiar objects and a gentle rhythm suited for reading aloud, a farm and all its items—a horse and its hay, a truck, a stool, a fence—are assembled, ending with bedtime as the sun goes down. This is a farm for a young child to have whenever they want to go there. —Synopsis provided by Candlewick

YOUR ISLAND (YOUR PLACES), by Jon Klassen, Candlewick, Feb. 4, 2025, Board Book, $8.99 (ages 2-5)

    This is your sun.
It is coming up for you.

    This is your palm tree.
It can go over by the sun.

With a minimal tableau of familiar objects and a gentle rhythm suited for reading aloud, an island and all its items—a tent, a fire, a boat, a bird—are assembled, ending with bedtime as the sun goes down. This is an island for a young child to have whenever they want to go there. —Synopsis provided by Candlewick

When the company cut back, she lost her position covering books, but that doesn't mean she stopped reading. If anything, the whole experience made her more passionate about reading and giving people the tools to make informed decisions in their own book choices. She has been featured on NetGalley's Blogger Spotlight and is on Kindleprenuer's Ultimate List of the Best Book Review Blogs.
